As we begin the new school year, CTS is excited to meet the Columbia community again and hopes to see all at our events this year.
As Columbia Turkish Students, we had the pleasure to speak with Koray Çalışkan, a Political Science teacher at Bogazici University, on recent issues concerning our country. In addition to being an academic, Koray Çalışkan is also a columnist at the Radikal Newspaper and an advisor to Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, leader of the main opposition party in Turkey.

We Unite Against Terrorism
Columbia Turkish Students Association invited the Columbia Community to stand against terrorism. All together, we mourned the terrorist attacks in Lahore, Baghdad, Brussels, Istanbul, Maiduguri, Ankara, Sanaa, Paris, Beirut, Kabul and other parts of the world. There was a wall of commemoration and flowers/candles for all to leave in front of the wall to honor the innocent victims.
Ruken Mizrakli, one of the prominent women entrepreneurs in Turkey visited Columbia University to talk about how she challenged the idea that only big countries can give birth to global corporations, and she showed that global markets are available to emerging countries, like Turkey. She also encouraged small businesses and wannabe entrepreneurs with success stories like hers.

In the large event, Birsel talked abou her new book "Memleketi Ben Kurtaracağım!"("I will save the nation!") and answered questions on the book as well as on other diverse topics.
